Lecture Series

SID NL’s core activity is its yearly lecture series of nine lectures on a theme both relevant and current for the area of international and development cooperation. These lecture cycles are organised in cooperation with VU University Amsterdam, Maastricht University, Radboud University Nijmegen, the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), University of Utrecht, University of Groningen (RUG), and other partners such as NGO’s, (research) institutes, ministries and international organisations.

Following the lectures, a closing conference is organised in which the conclusions and recommendations of the lecture cycle are discussed by policy-makers, politicians, scientists, media, NGO’s and business. After both the lectures series and the final conference have taken place, the lectures and the report of the conference are published as a book. Other activities

Aside from these lecture series SID NL has embarked on two new projects: the Vijverberg sessions, and the Population Question and Development lecture series.

The Vijverberg sessions are organised in cooperation with the SID European programme and other partners relevant for the specific sessions. The Sessions together have as aim to discuss in small expert gatherings (‘fireplace sessions’) the Dutch and European response to emerging global scarcities. The four sessions discussed: energy; food; water; and climate and (forced) migration. For more information on the Vijverberg sessions, click here.

The Population lecture series is a one off series of public lectures entitled “The Population Question and Development: The Need for a Debate in the Netherlands”. The lectures are organised jointly by SID NL, the ISS, and the World Population Foundation (WPF). The purpose of this lecture series is to reopen the debate in the Netherlands about population issues, with a particular focus on family planning as a cross-cutting theme. Lezingencyclus

De kernactiviteit van SID NL is haar jaarlijkse lezingencyclus over een actueel en relevant onderwerp op het gebied van internationale en ontwikkelingssamenwerking. Deze lezingencyclus wordt georganiseerd samen met de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Maastricht Universiteit, Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, ISS, Universiteit Utrecht en andere partners zoals NGO’s, instituten, ministeries en internationale organisaties.

Aansluitend op deze lezingen, wordt een slotconferentie georganiseerd waar de conclusies en aanbevelingen van de lezingencyclus bediscussieerd worden door beleidsmakers, politici, wetenschappers, media, NGO’s en bedrijfsleven. Aan het einde van de lezingencyclus en de conferentie worden de lezingen en conferentie gepubliceerd in een boek. Andere activiteiten

Naast de terugkerende lezingencyclus, heeft SID het afgelopen jaar nieuwe activiteiten ontwikkeld: de Vijverberg sessies, en de Population Question and Development lezingenreeks.

De Vijverberg sessies worden georganiseerd in samenwerking met het SID Europese programma en andere partners relevant voor de verschillende sessies. De Vijverberg sessies zijn besloten (‘fireplace’) sessies, waarbij met een groep experts de Nederlandse en Europese houding ten aanzien van opkomende mondiale schaarsten wordt besproken. Het programma bestaat uit vier sessies, die als thema’s hebben: energie; voedsel; water; en klimaat en (gedwongen) migratie. Voor meer informatie over de Vijverberg sessies, klik hier.

De Population lezingenreeks is een eenmalige cyclus getiteld: “The Population Question and Development: The Need for a Debate in the Netherlands”. De lezingen worden gezamenlijk georganiseerd door SID NL, het ISS, en de World Population Foundation (WPF). Het beoogde van de lezingenreeks is het heropenen van een debat in Nederland over bevolkingsvraagstukken, met specifieke focus op gezinsplanning.
