Democratie en Ontwikkeling

Background Each year the SID in the Netherlands organises a series of lectures around a theme of central relevance to the debate and policy making on international cooperation. In the academic year 2006-2007, Democracy and Development was the theme of a very successful and thought-provoking series.This conference aims to explore an orientation framework for policy implications for different stakeholders involved in international cooperation in the Netherlands, Europe and internationally: policy makers politicians and parliamentarians, non-governmental organizations, research centres and academics. The conference will look at the subject of Democracy and Development from a multi-disciplinary perspective.

I Part – Keynote speeches

Each panellist will have 10 minutes to respond to the main challenges raised in the summary of the SID lecture series and to present his/hers views from a standpoint of a representative of his/hers respective stakeholder’s group.
